Originally, I planned on calling these "sparkling" cranberries. But, either I don't have the proper camera and photography skills to capture that sparkle or I didn't follow the recipe correctly because they didn't come out as glittery as I had hoped. Nevertheless, they are winter-y and festive, perfect for the holiday season (and I've decided that things don't need to look perfect before I post them on this blog).
These sparkly tiny ornament-like jewels have caught my eye in various holiday magazines and blogs for a while now and even though I had no plans for how to utilize them, I just had to make them. I'm all about simple these days, and you can't get simpler than fresh cranberries, sugar, and water.
Aside from wanting a bowl of pretty sparkly cranberries to decorate my coffee table, I was curious as to how they would taste - since raw cranberries are extremely tart. Soaking them overnight in a sugar syrup and coating them twice in sugar obviously helps with that tartness - resulting in just the right amount of sweet and sour. I loved the pop and crunch so much that I ate a few handfuls before I decided I should probably save some to garnish my holiday desserts.
@KatrinasKitchen - Thanks, Katrina! @tastypursuits - Thanks, Hazel. Sorry for the late reply, I used them as garnish for the olive oil pound cake w/ cranberry compote I made. But mostly, I ate them as is. ;)

Recently, I had to uninstall the third-party commenting system on the blog so you'll notice comments missing on some posts. Your feedback is appreciated, so I will be re-entering them manually. So, if you see comments all entered at the same date/time, you'll know why. Thanks for understanding!
