{Share Our Strength} Food Blogger Bake Sale

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to meet some of my fellow NYC food bloggers at the National Food Blogger Bake Sale for Share Our Strength.  It was a wonderful collaborative effort lead by Maggy, of Three Many Cooks.  Bakers and volunteers included Amber of Bluebonnets and Brownies, Tara of Chip Chip Hooray, Andrea of High/Low Food/Drink, Emily of Nomnivorous, Urvashee of Dessarts, Hazel of Tasty Pursuits, and Jessica of Food Mayhem - all whom I had the pleasure to meet.

Although the skies were gray and gloomy, we had tons of baked treats that kept everyone smiling as they walked by and stopped at our table in front of Kiehl's flagship store in NYC's East Village.  The adorable "burger and fries" by Andrea were the hit item of the day - almost every other person who passed by did a double take, most came back to get a better look and make a purchase!

There was a good mix of indulgent goodies as well as "healthier" options - such as flapjacks made by London Foodie NY, which are a British bar cookie made from oats.  I'd never heard of them before but had to try them after a happy customer came back to report that they were "out-of-control"!

My contribution to the bake sale were two different kinds of macarons - the pops (a la Bakerella) were vanilla bean with chocolate-raspberry ganache; the ribboned packages included lime macarons with lemon-lime Swiss meringue buttercream.  Two months ago, I would have looked at you crazy if you asked me to make 100 macarons for an event but I've had lots of success lately with a new recipe that I hope to share with you soon.

The event was a success in more ways than one.  It was a pleasure to meet all of the sweet gals, the staff of Kiehl's, and especially all of the generous customers who picked up sweets for this cause.  The bake sale raised over $800 for Share Our Strength! ::UPDATE 5/17:: The national total from all of the bake sales is over $22,000! Thank you all for your support!
